“According to Aristotle, a city exists for the sake of a good life, and not for the sake of life only. Liveability means joy, leisure, health, communication, and interaction…”

      My vision for Victoria

      ordinary day

      Neighbourhoods

I envision neighbours that know and care for each other in pods of communities that have space to gather. I want to create a local culture where it’s not awkward to speak to a stranger and not a big deal to ask for help.

      Homes for all

It’s hard to grow up if we can’t afford to move out of our parents’ houses. It’s hard to raise a family in a studio suite. It’s hard to find a rental where your dog can live, too. My hope is that there will be homes for all no matter your socioeconomic status. You deserve a home because you belong here. Victoria needs gentle densification, more units for families, and more affordable units overall. It’s not impossible. Supply needs to increase to meet the demand and we must demand it.

      Transportation

No matter ability, Victorians will be able to easily get around town through reliable and efficient public transit. Through collaboration with neighbouring municipalities, I want to create a convenient and affordable transit system throughout the CRD and especially to and from the airport and ferry terminals. Safe and secure public bike storage will further promote bike transportation as well.

I’m in favour of the all ages, all abilities bike lanes. The current plan laid out by the City of Victoria is good and I’m in favour of bringing that to completion.

      Integration

We need opportunities to integrate the young with the old, the rich with the poor, the abled and the differently-abled, and the old-timers and the newcomers. It is my hope that we can each extend our circles to include others different from ourselves because we each have so much to learn from one another and together. Integrating social services and recreation within neighbourhoods is an important way our addresses can become communities.

      Community Spaces

3 specific purposes come to mind when it comes to community spaces. We need green spaces for animals and humans alike, public meeting rooms for local groups to meet, and increased childcare spaces for our children.

      Food & Culture

Where there is food, people will gather. This isn’t exclusive to those who are hungry, but applies to everyone. Diversity in food is the first step in cultural acceptance and inclusivity and the elimination of racism. I want to live in a city where specialty cafes and restaurants reflect the diversity of our community.
